Remove the background from your t-shirt designs
Built for design graphics — clean cutouts and transparent PNGs without a Photoshop subscription.
Free · no watermark · your designs stay on your device
Print-on-demand designs need transparent backgrounds, but AI generators love putting your artwork on a solid backdrop. Cutting it out by hand in Photoshop or Canva is slow — and the automatic “photo” removers often chew up graphic art.
MerchForge's remover is built specifically for design graphics: it detects the background colour and removes it cleanly, keeps every colour in your artwork (including white ink), and snaps the edges to a print-safe finish. A Photoshop-style “Contiguous” switch keeps enclosed areas — so a white background disappears while the white in your design stays.
It's free, runs in your browser (your designs are never uploaded), handles whole batches, and exports transparent PNGs ready for any platform. Designs that already have transparency pass through untouched.
How it works
- Step 1Drop your designs
PNG, JPG or WebP — single files or a whole batch.
- Step 2Pick “Remove background”
Toggle Contiguous mode to keep enclosed areas that match the background colour. Add upscaling or an exact print size in the same pass.
- Step 3Download transparent PNGs
Clean, print-safe edges and transparency that survives upload to any POD platform.
What you get
- One-click removal tuned for graphic designs, not photos
- Contiguous mode — keep enclosed same-colour areas
- Print-safe edges (no half-transparent fringe)
- Transparent designs pass through untouched
- Batch processing, free, no watermark
- Runs on your device — nothing is uploaded
Common questions
What images does it work best on?
Design graphics on a solid or near-solid background — exactly what AI generators produce. For busy photographic backgrounds, a halftone conversion (also free in MerchForge) is often the better POD trick.
What does the Contiguous switch do?
Like Photoshop's Magic Wand: it only removes background connected to the image edges, so enclosed areas of the same colour — the white in an eye, text on a badge — stay in the design.
Will white parts of my design disappear on a white background?
Not with Contiguous mode on — it removes the outer white background while keeping white areas inside the artwork.
Do I need Photoshop or a subscription?
No — it's free and runs in your browser. No install, no account, no watermark on your files.
